Roderick Aichinger for Annabelle Magazine
Roderick Aichinger’s latest assignment was for Swiss Magazine Annabelle and included the dreaded word that would have scared off a lesser chap. KIDS. The idea was to produce a series of images that show the effect having kids has on you as an individual and a couple. The magazine’s first idea was to shoot it documentary style with a real family but couldn’t find the right family in Zurich so they pitched the idea to Roderick to shoot in Hamburg. But a combination of the dark city light at the beginning of the year and the fact that real families actually don’t have time to stop and pose for a magazine story meant that this was a no go. So Roderick came up with the idea of conceptualising the shoot in the studio with the theme of “Old life, new life”.
Zurich was to be the venue which was very exciting for Roderick as it would be his first production in his home land. Through a close working relationship between photographer and magazine the story started to breath life. They collaborated to tell the story through a series of split screen images. Where half of the frame would tell the parents story before the child arrived and the other half would show their lives now. Perfect.
